While Louie's positions are in the right direction, the only way LAUSD to going to improve student achievement and parental involvement, is to break up LAUSD into much smaller independent K-12 school districts. For instance, only having the school districts max out at 30,000 students per district, creating 20-30 indepdendent, neighborhood districts.
That alone would eliminate the bloated bucreaucracy and overpaid consultants, the unnecessary busing of students miles away, and allowing middle class parents to have renewed faith in their local public school without spending tens of thousands per year in private school.
